Piano Instruction

pianokeys1The Joan Forsyth Piano Studio offers lessons to all ages at our studio in Mount Vernon, or at your home.

Joan Forsyth, DMA, pianist, holds a Master’s Degree from the Juilliard  School in piano performance and a doctorate from Rutgers University. She has over twenty years of teaching experience, having taught both privately and for such institutions as New York University and Concordia College. For four years she served as the Director of the Concordia College Music Preparatory Department. She also has Suzuki piano training, assisted Dr. Suzuki and Mme. H.  Katoka at Suzuki Institute West at San Francisco and takes a special interest in early childhood education.  She is the Chairman and founder of the Bronxville center of the National Guild of Piano Teachers, and a past Chairman of the Westchester-Rockland-Putnam  Music Teachers Association. She is presently a board member and Program Chairman of that organization,  and  Co-Director of Education and Outreach for the New Jersey Guild of Composers.

Ms. Forsyth is also an active performer, both as soloist and chamber musician. She has made appearances at such venues as the Kennedy Center, Merkin Hall and Weil Recital Hall, as well as tours of Europe, Japan and South America. Her playing has been broadcast on WNYC, WFAS, RAI (Italy), Vermont Public Radio, and New York Public Radio. She is Artistic Director of the Willoughby Music Festival in Vermont and has appeared as soloist with the Westchester Chamber Orchestra and the Westchester Philharmonic. Joan Forsyth has recorded for CRI, Soundspells, and Furious Artisans.

Tuition

Student enrollment is by the season only, 36 lessons, once a week. Lessons should be paid in advance, in four equal installments of 9 weeks each, beginning with the first lesson in September.

Fees are listed per quarter:

Half hour         $360

Three-quarter  $540

One hour         $720

Travel Fee       $180 (charged once per location)

No lesson will be made up unless cancelled twenty-four hours in advance to permit schedule rearrangement. Other missed lessons will be made up at mutually convenient times. Only two lessons will be made up per quarter unless serious illness causes a prolonged absence. No refunds will be given after the fourth lesson of each quarter. A travel fee of $20 must be added to lessons given outside the studio.
